If you were to tell me back in 1986 Slayer would achieve such ominous success I would have completely busted out in a fit of endless laughter over such an impossible feat. Well it’s been almost twenty years since I first exposed myself to the evil ways of SLAYER and now I find myself grasping onto a DVD that is sure to hopefully bring back some hellish memories to say the least.

With the 1986 release of the now classic Reign In Blood album SLAYER changed the face of metal as we know it. Relentless guitar riffage and pure brutal power proved Slayer to be the most dominate force on the metal scene world wide. With the DVD release of Still Reigning Slayer relive their pinnacle release in its entirety sure to please all the savage fans in need of a fix from their hero’s of thrash. After quickly consuming a few cold beers I found myself engulfed with memories of when metal meant something to say the least. Viewing Slayer brutally beat the shit out of bands that infest the metal world today with a live performance of music dating back almost 20 years is a little funny to say the least. Easily proving why Slayer have ruled the game for years, this DVD surprisingly captures SLAYER at their best. With Dave Lombardo back pounding skins the tight and punishing sounds of classic Slayer has been resurrected with all intact. All the riff frenzy classics are brought back from the ashes including such blistering cuts as Jesus Saves, Criminally Insane, and Angel Of Death to mention just a few. Ending an already incredible set is a blood drenching bath devilishly titled (the wall of blood) dropped from the ceiling during the frantic ending screams of Tom Aray as the closing number Reigning Blood pushes their live set to the fullest. In a blood bathed fury Kerry King and company leave the stage proving once again why they are the real metal overlords.

Some other great bonus extras are a great behind the scenes of Slayer including backstage and retro footage spanning their careers as metal rulers of real metal. Also included in the bonus material is 6 other Slayer classics performed live including Mandatory Suicide, South Of Heaven, and War Ensemble sure to put many necks into frozen muscle strain. Still Reigning is a must have for any true metal fan and easily would make a great stocking stuffer for any die hard Slayer fan needing that brutal fix of metal this Christmas.
