Here’s a prime example of some genuine stoner metal, courtesy of Relapse Records. Alabama Thunderpussy convey a dynamic wall of sound, mixing heavy influences of 70s rock, 80s hair metal, and Clutch-esque vocals and jam method playing.

The album is a definite stoner album to vibe out to. Pounding yet upbeat guitars, matched with strong vocal melodies, and a rhythm section that will have you bouncing, Open Fire is an all out fun record. Songs like “Void of Harmony” feature progressive style playing while “None Shall Return” have that fast pace punk rock, thrash playing that will have you head banging to your hearts content.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this album, but Open Fire is surprisingly good. Damn good. Rarely do I listen to a style of music such as this, but it does crossover. The only mundane problem that I ever had was the band’s name; Alabama Thunderpussy just sounds a little goofy. But after a listen to this album, that doesn’t really matter. Give Open Fire a listen, it’ll be very beneficial to your health. Cheers!
