For those who have been living under a rock the past year
let me quickly bring you up to speed on what exactly Angels & Airwaves
is. The story begins in 2005 when Blink-182 announced they
would be going on an “indefinite hiatus”. Guitarist/Vocalist
Tom Delonge began work on the aforementioned projected. Sometime
later an album was released and the first single “The
Adventure” gained consistent radio and video play.
Now that we’re on the same level, I will now put Angels & Airwaves
new album under a microscope and pick at it with a pair of
tweezers.
At first my thought on this before even listening to it
was, “Oh great, another piece of garbage from those
Blink-182 idiots.” Box Car Racer, The Transplants;
to me it was all the same. But it all honestly, I think
this record isn’t bad at all. The music itself is
very mature and well written. At first I hated the vocals,
because in my opinion Tom Delonge couldn’t create
a pitch even if he was on a Special Olympics softball team.
But after awhile, I get to the point where it really doesn’t
bother me.
Overall the lyrics are pretty good, and writing is not
bad. The whole thing is pretty much a grand piece of work.
This is an album I wouldn’t mind adding to my collection,
but I wouldn’t buy it any time soon. Someone would
probably have to buy it for me. But I would definitely
recommend it. Angels & Airwaves definitely have promise
and I think things have only begun for them.
