Blind Guardian is one of many power metal bands that I've tried several times to understand and engorge myself with...but I just can't quite get there. There is no argument from me that Blind Guardian are amazing musicians and have spent the last 20 years perfecting their craft of fantasy power metal to a height that will be hard to reach by any younger bands of the genre.

However...this is also a genre of music that to me, personally can get quite silly. Don't get me wrong, I love Merciful Fate/King Diamond. I love Rhapsody and the now more mainstream Dragonforce. Ridiculous guitar solos, vocals and lyrical writing are one of my favorite things about waking up every day, however with "A Twist in the Myth" Blind Guardian doesn't do much to keep my attention. Fans of this band will love this record, and I have no doubt in my mind that "A Twist in the Myth" will be another huge success for the band, I just don't get it. I will say though, that as boring as I think this record is, I can't image power metal today with out the huge impact that this band has had, and will have for years to come.
