Emocore,
Punk, and Alternative Rock favorites Boy Sets Fire land on
a new label and kick out a new EP for our pleasure. Wind-Up
Records continue to grab great artists and build an empire
of some of the best music out there today. The addition of
Boy Sets Fire to the label brings a heavier element to an
otherwise standard rock environment. This little sampling
of 3 new songs and 3 live ones gives you just enough to hold
you over until the next full length album. It puts the mouthwatering
sample into your mouth and leaves you craving for more. At
$5 it should be a side pick up with your next album purchase.
As
an EP, it really doesn't last very long. The marketing idea
to get the EP out as quick as possible is great as a promotion
towards the next offering, but as a stand alone record it
doesn't have the longevity of a good full length album. A
good way to get a taste of the band is to pick up some of
their earlier releases.
Musically,
the fast paced punk-like variation of hardcore gets the blood
pumping and the body moving. The vocals handled by three of
the band members immediately remind me of The Used and Glassjaw.
The same form of vocal technique is applied with a somewhat
higher then usual hardcore voice tone, very reminiscent of
Emo. Generally if a vocalist isn't top notch at that pitch,
the music is horribly distorted, but they do a terrific job
and keep everything flowing as it should be.
Fans
of Punk, Emo, Indie, and Hardcore should check these guys
out as it's a guaranteed hit for enthusiasts of those genres.
