The Usual Suspects, some would say that about this album if the term “Supergroup” was to be defined. *Drum Roll Please* Sammy Hagar on vocals, Michael Anthony on bass, Joe Satriani on guitar, Chad Smith on drums.

The concept has been done before with Whitesnake and David Lee Roth Band just to name a few but not quite so much with the tentative success that Chickenfoot executed their volley into Super-group-dom. These guys really do gel together. I have to say that with the expectations so high, that these guys wouldn’t dare throw a song on there with an “all at once, one take” recording. Yup, one take and that was it with “Down the Drain”. It’s a testament to the cohesiveness that these guys can conjure musical magic at a moments notice and deliver. Sammy’s party vibe ever-present throughout the cd along with Michael Anthony’s high end harmonies make you think you’re listening to a new Van Halen album until you hear Satriani chime in at the 4:26 mark of “Soap on a Rope”, then you know that there’s way more behind the fretboard then what VH has had to offer in a long time.

If you’re a fan of the Van Hagar years or Satriani (any years..lol) you’re going to have to get this cd. Hopefully this becomes more than just the side-project it was initially intended to be.
