Those
of you looking for the Incubus you thought you knew are in
for a terrible shock with this album. It resembles N'Sync
more then it resembles rock. It's soft, irritating, and completely
opposite of anything a hard rock fan would be looking forward
to. One would immediately suspect this album to be a sellout
album, but it more likely seems that the music taste of the
group has matured, or that they are experimenting and treading
on thin ice with their original fans.
All
the elements that made Incubus have been striped away for
sub-standard alternative rock. Songs like "Wish You Were Here"
and "Nice to Know You" belong in an elevator more then an
arena. Now, there is nothing wrong with soft rock in general,
but there is a lot wrong when it isn't done right. The lyrical
and guitar work in this album doesn't even compare to the
music someone like Jerry Cantrell (ex-Alice in Chains guitarist)
can put out. Listen to Jerry's new album for a taste of what
Incubus were looking to achieve, but didn't even come close
to. There is a difference between "maturing" and abandoning
who you are. Apparently, it seems that TRL spots and mainstream
pop $$$ are worth more then integrity.
Music
fans don't care if you take off your shirt and flex for the
under aged girls, they want music, which unfortunately this
band couldn't deliver. If you want good music, go pick up
a copy of S.C.I.E.N.C.E., then see why you would be angry
with this album.
