Lacuna Coil have been one of those bands
who’s been around for awhile in the underground scene
in Europe, eventually breaking out to a massive U.S. audience
thanks to their debut on Ozzfest’s Second Stage back
in 2004 and again in 2006 on the Main Stage. As far as
I know Karmacode is Lacuna Coil’s sixth studio album.
But I’ve only heard two.
The album’s opener “Fragile” booms
in with down tuned, thunderous riffs and hypnotic vocals
from Cristina Scabbia. Followed next by the song “To
the Edge” which pretty much gives you the exact same
thing, with a catchy melody to match. Then the new hit
single “Our Truth” and so on and so on. Then
the album ends with a cover of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy
the Silence”. And out of all the bands that I’ve
heard cover that particular song, I still say that It Dies
Today’s rendition of it is still the best.
Overall
the album doesn’t really give you much.
I seem to argue a lot with people about Karmacode. I still
claim that their previous release Comalies was far better,
but I always get the argument over it. In the end the album
it alright on it’s own, but compared to other releases
by Lacuna Coil, it’s a run-of-the-mill piece of work
at best. If you’re a big fan of Lacuna Coil then
by all means go pick it up, otherwise if you’re looking
to get your hands on an album that has the song “Our
Truth” then I would just say pick of any of the multiple
soundtracks that it’s on. |
