What can I really say about a band like
Millionaire, let alone the whole post-punk, indie 70s rock
music style? Hailing from Belgium and fronted by Tim Vanhamel
(Evil Superstars, dEUS and Eagles of Death Metal), Millionaire
present you with a stoner rock sound all too similar to
other bands like Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, Death
From Above 1979, and Eagles of Death Metal, which is some
way would make total sense.
The groups second album 'Paradisia'c presents a blend
of guitar driven rock and a pinch of electronics to add
more flavor. At first the album felt really bland and almost
unable. But with further , the album starts to get a little
more interesting. In the beginning the tempo is sluggish
and narcoleptic, but as it progresses, it picks up and
starts to get some juices flowing, but still not enough
to really gain much enthusiasm from me.
Id have to say the only song that really caught my attention
was Wake Up the Children which included some slightly bizarre
vocal distortions. Face That Doesn't Fit by far is the
most out there of songs. Sounding more like an industrial
punk tune than anything.
Overall its like a ride at the County Fair. Your expectations
are high and you only ending finding out that is just spins
in circles leaving you bored than thrilled. Millionaire
is a band for those who like this sort of sound, but as
for me I feel like I'm left penniless.
