At
first, I didn't know what to expect from newcomer Must out
of Wind-up Records. I've never been disappointed in a wind-up
band before and wasn't about to be disappointed this time
either. I popped the CD in to my stereo, and got a nice little
surprise that put a smile on my face. One of my favorite bands
of all time is Soundgarden, and when I heard the song "Heartbreaker"
I couldn't believe how much Must sounded like them. Must puts
out a solid rock sound while throwing some great acoustic
work into the mix. Singer Dave Ireland sounds like Chris Cornell
at some points, but he has his own character and style which
is unique and welcome to all rock fans out there. The lighter
guitar work on the album is very soothing and very well orchestrated.
Having members from different parts of the world adds to the
exceptional sound that they attain (it actually sounds somewhat
English, and somewhat like U2).
The
highlights of the CD are "Rust", "Freechild", "One Night Stand",
"Odyssey" and "Heartbreaker". Actually, the highlight of the
CD is the whole CD itself. I found myself listening all the
way through intently waiting for another song. As a fan of
much heavier music, I must say that the CD caught me completely
off guard. It takes that extra something for me to be interested
in a lighter rock sound, and Must was able to pull it off.
I highly recommend this CD to anyone. Not only is it radio
friendly, but it has that type of sound that just about anyone
can tolerate, regardless of favorite genres.
