Seether's
Disclaimer, the original release, is a great album. An emotional
journey through lead singer Shaun Morgan's emotional hardships
played to a grunge rock eerily reminiscent of Kurt Cobain
and Nirvana.
Disclaimer
II is a rip off by Wind Up Records and Seether. They remastered
all of Disclaimer, smoothing out all of the 'production flaws'
- which is always a mistake as the quirks make original recordings
raw and endearing. Then they added songs that weren't quite
good enough to make the debut release or were recorded for
movie soundtracks. To top it off, Seether re-recorded "Broken"
with Morgan's girlfriend, Evanescence's Amy Lee. The result
is a radio-friendly creampuff of a track that is lacking of
the heartbreak that made the original so powerful.
The
only track that was laying around that Seether didn't throw
in on II is the band's spot-on cover of Nirvana's "You Know
Your Right", a shame as it blows away all of the other detritus
that is tossed on the album.
Even
with an additional dvd thrown in with behind-the-scenes features,
this release is nothing more than a poor bone thrown out to
fans while the band tours and Morgan spends time with his
girlfriend. Seether and Wind Up are just exploiting loyal
fans for their personal gain.
[For comparison's sake, the original Disclaimer is deserving
of a 3.5 star rating.]
