Hailing from Elizabethton, Tennessee, The
Showdown dropped their sophmore album, Temptation Come
My Way, on all of us. Sure The Showdown rocks, incorporating
not only the overplayed sound that we hear oh so much on
the radio from bands like Evans Blue, Three Days Grace,
or whoever else is getting their 15 minutes, but a twist
of classic 80s style rock, Def Leppard style, and brought
it to the present.
It’s good, but at the same time it becomes dreary
real quick. Sure there’s tons and tons of heavy riffage,
however that can only take you so far. Songs like “Six
Feet Under” and “Breath of the Swamp” are
like fist pumping anthems while tunes like “Death
Finds Us Breathing” offers powerful lyrical delivery.
Even a cover of Kansas’ rock classic “Carry
On Wayward Son” appears on this album.
It’s fun here and there, but for the most part it’s
two tiring rock genres blended into one sorrowfully making
Temptation Come My Way something you want to download or
borrow from a friend first if you really want to check
it out. Though be sure to check them out at Ozzfest this
year.
